Whenever I get vouchers for shops, I always try and buy something that I don’t normally buy with them. I’ve been listening to the Beak> album alot, so I thought I would see what Geoff Barrow‘s production was like on The Horrors. Listening to the album, I don’t think he has had that much of an effect on it. I cane see why people say there is a Krautrock influence on it, but to me I think the bigger influences are those of post punk. I can hear a lot of Siouxsie and The Banshees, Joy Division and Bauhaus in there. Yes, there is some Krautrock influence but not as much as has been made out by all the press. I’m actually shocked at how much I like this album. I did mean to check out earlier, but last year was an excellent year for music. I really like the first track Mirrors’ Image. Kicking off with the drum machine, synths and guitar and then breaking down into a proper rock song. I should add that Chris Cunningham also produced some of the tracks on this album. Its on Spotify, so you can listen to it there.
Many thanks to Wrongtom for the good discussion about it.
