Koyaanisqatsi

This is awesome. Check it out if you haven’t seen it.

Le Weekend

leweekend

Le Weekend is an experimental music festival in Stirling and this year’s line up looks pretty good. I am definitely going to head along on the Sunday to check out Broadcast. I haven’t seen Broadcast live since their last tour for Tender Buttons, but they are an amazing band live. Julian House from Ghost Box will also be exhibiting some work during the festival along with local artists Rue Five and David Galletly at The Changing Rom.

Warp 20

warp20

Warp Records celebrates its 20th birthday this year. Blimey. It’s still one of my favourite record labels. They’ve been releasing progressive music forever! Anyway, as part of the celebrations they are allowing the general public to vote for songs that should appear on a special 2CD set that will be released later this year. CD 1 will be selected by Steve Beckett, head honcho of Warp. This is a great opportunity to choose some fantastic tracks. If you sign up, you get to vote for 50 of them! Brilliant. I think I have only used about 8 of my votes so far, but I’ll get on the case. Just click on the image above to go to the website.

Prefuse 73 – Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian (Warp Records)

prefuse73albumsleeve

Prefuse 73 is back with a new album for Warp. It’s ok, I’ve not really got into it yet, seeing as I have only listened once, but what excites me most about this is the fact that Dan McPharlin has created the artwork for the sleeve. It’s a fantastic piece of work and reminds me of Roger Dean. Anyway, back to the music. Its your usual Prefuse hip hop stuff, not bad, but not totally ground breaking either. I shouldn’t say too much about it as I have only listened to it once. The album is comprised of lots of short tracks and some longer ones. I reckon you could have some fun with this in Serato looping stuff up.

I’m quite excited about catching Pivot live again. They were pretty incredible when I saw them last year. They were also incredibly loud, but I do feel that the album comes alive when played live. Anyway, they are playing in quite a few spots, so check them out if they come near you.

Apologies

I feel like I should apologise for lack of posts recently. I’m going on holiday so I have been quite busy. I have some good stuff coming up for when I get back and also a field report as well. Be back soon.

Dam Funk

Dam Funk has to be one of the best signings Stones Throw have made since MADVILLAIN. Can’t wait for his album to drop.

Urban Camouflage

urbancamouflage

This picture is taken from a website called Urban Camouflage. It’s pretty cool. They have constructed their own camouflage suits based on the Ghillie suit and adapted them for use in an urban environment. Head on over and check out their videos.

Belbury Youth Club Night

bycn

This night looks totally amazing. You have Julian House and Jim Jupp from Ghostbox djing, along with Jonny Trunk, Woebot and Mark Pilkington. You also have Broadcast performing an improvised soundtrack to a short film by Julian House and to top it off they will be showing loads of weird tv programmes and weird public information films. If you live in London, you should make the effort to go to this.
