Ben Drury for Mo’Wax

I remember seeing this website years ago and was excited about the Mo’Wax radio they had. Nice to see that it is all still there.

Mind Field

Finally got a hold of the new Alien Workshop DVD, Mind Field. It’s pretty good and definitely one of the better skate videos that has come out in recent times. Nice short sections with lots of madness that you would expect from the Workshop. Great sound track too. Animal Collective, Dinosaur Jr, Modeselektor and others. Its was also cool to see J Mascis at the start of the video with Omar Salazar. Stand out sections for me are Jake Johnson, Grant Taylor, Jason Dill and Omar Salazar. Not forgetting Steve Berra‘s section, which although is short, it is very sweet! Check this out if you have a passing interest in skateboarding.

Harmonic 313 LP

Got this on vinyl the other week. Amazing. Nice sleeve. Wasn’t too sure of the image, but it works quite nicely. I like the inside sleeves as well. Great to get the CD copy of the album with the vinyl. I really wish people would do this more often, or give a download code for high quality mp3s. Cyclotron is a banger of a tune and sounds rude loud. I really like the finishing track Quadrant 3 and Don’t Panic was pretty decent as well. I wonder what Mark Pritchard will do next?

Animal Collective – My Girls

I love this song at the moment! It’s amazing. It’s opn the Jake Johnson section of the Alien Workshop DVD, Mind Field. More of that later today. Anyway. I can’t stop listening to the recent Animal Collective album. It’s great. Go out and buy it. The artwork is trippy as well.

Rob Hall @ Analogical Force

Looking for a new Rob Hall DJ mix? Then never fear. There is a new one over at the Analogical Force website. Not had a chance to listen to it yet, but hopefully it’s good. It’s about 2 hours long as well. Nice one.

Vangelis – The Dragon

vangelis_dragon

I love the work of Vangelis. He’s done loads of amazing soundtracks, but to me his progressive rock albums from the 70s are amazing. I guess it all starts with 666 by Aphrodite’s Child. I’m really into his concept album, Earth, which is about a day in the life of this planet. Fantastic. I really like the track about the guy that comes and knocks on the door, but noone is in. Seriously, it’s an amazing track. Seek this one out. Back to the point. I have been enjoying The Dragon today. It’s got lots of Middle Eastern influences in it. Stuffed Tomato is a great track. Nice to see food getting a look in on track titles. The album sleeve is great as well. A dragon coming out of the sea. Brilliant!

G Spots

Now this album sounds very interesting. British library music from the 1960s to the 1980s from a tiny studio called Studio G. Library music is always quite exciting and this looks great. Its a retrospective of the label and is going to come out on the fantastic Trunk records. Head on over to their website to find out more about this album. You can even buy it on CD right now, I might do this seeing as it is pay day this week!

I really enjoy the work of Yves Tanguy. I got into it through an old Penguin book cover for JG Ballard‘s The Drowned World.

Fact Magazine Interviews

I was hoping to pick up the latest copy of FACT magazine when I was out and about town on Friday, but I didn’t find it. Anyway, there are a couple of good interviews up on the website. One from Hudson Mohawke and also one from Belbury Poly. You should read them if you have a spare five minutes. Hope I find a copy of the magazine soon. It’s a nice publication and most of all it is free!
