Bleep.com is 5 years old!

picture-5

To celebrate Bleep‘s 5th birthday they have asked various people to choose 5 bleep releases. The line up of people is quite interesting. You have Steve Beckett (co-founder of Warp), Four Tet, Thom Yorke, Danny Breaks, Pivot, Luke Vibert and loads of others. Head on over to the site and have a look at the recommendations. Some of them are quite unexpected.

Futura 2000 is another of my favourite artists. I was introduced to his work through the Mo’Wax record label. I guess the main reason I like his work is because all of it is very scientific. His atom piece is something that I always enjoy seeing. I know that alot of people get this tattoo. You should definitely try and get hold of his book Futura, which came out in 2000. It even comes with some stickers. I’m not going to write too much about him as there are plenty of websites to look up.

Mr Fingers – Can You Feel It?

This song is truly one of the greatest moments in music. I never tire of hearing it. To me it is a perfect song, well the instrumental version. I am not a big fan of the guy preaching over this track on the vocal version. This sounds like the future to me. You can tell there is a big jazz influence in this track through the hi hats. He’s just released a new ep called “25 Years From Alpha” which is pretty wicked.

Zombie Zombie – Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free

Thanks to my friend Peggie for sending this amazing video. It’s a stop motion video using GI Joe or if you are British, Action Force figures to Driving This Road Until Death Sets Your Free by Zombie Zombie. Amazing!

Pepsi x Jon Burgerman

pepsixburgerman

Normally I wouldn’t bother drinking Pepsi, but they have done a nice series where they have collaborated with artists to decorate cans and bottles. Here is a picture of the Jon Burgerman one. I apologise for the quality of the photo, I took with my phone and its quite bright in my office today. I got this in Farm Foods. 5 cans of fizzy pop for a £1. I didn’t buy 5 cans of Pepsi though, I made sure to get some 7up, as it is one of the finest soft drinks available to man.

The Lathe Of Heaven

The Lathe Of Heaven is a film based on the book written by Ursula K Le Guin. The film revolves around George, whose dreams can change reality. George has been abusing drugs, so that he will not dream. He is found out and referred to a psychologist, Haber, who is also a sleep researcher. Haber realizes the potential of George’s power and tries to right the wrongs of the world. The film is pretty weird, but definitely worth a watch if you are after some heavy sci fi action. This is defintiely a film that you have to think about. The quality of the actual film is pretty poor as it has been remastered from a video tape as the original tapes have been lost. I think this just adds more to the film as sometimes the characters in the film appear like ghosts.

Mr Chop – Lightworlds (Now Again)

lightworlds

Finally got this through the post today. Good to see Dan McPharlin has done the sleeve on this EP as well. Now to the music, this EP sees a vast improvement on the production side. The music appears to be heavier and far more sinister than his previous release, Sounds From The Cave. As usual it is analogue madness. This is the kind of music you would expect to hear in an old sci fi film. It comprises of tracks and some interludes. While members of the Heliocentrics feature on this record, it is quite different from their material. All in all, this is great. One for fans of old soundtracks. This is out now on 12″ and download and is released through Now Again.
