I first heard about Hobbyist Magazine through their collaboration with Carhartt. It sounded like a really cool idea. Photos of people’s hobbies. I also read an interview with Pierre Hourquet in Lodown magazine and after this I decided to buy my own copy of the magazine to see what it is like. Initially it was a blog that turned in to a magazine. You can still buy copies at Lozenup and Flatspot.
I’m a little gutted that this magazine has stopped. Times are tough at the moment. I thought that +1 magazine was one of the better magazines out there. I would even have paid for it, but it was free. Well, I hope that everyone involved has gone on to something else. I first got into this through French. He mentioned that he had an interview in it, so I went and checked out the magazine for that and it was great. Then the next issue had a good interview with Voice Of The Seven Woods. From then on I would just pick it up. The recent issue has an interview with La Boca and DC Recordings, so I recommend checking it out if you are interested in their work.
I recently picked up the first couple of issues of Bonafide magazine. It’s a hip hop magazine of sorts coming out of Leeds and London. The first issue has an interview with Emmet Keane of Answer, EhQuestionMark?, Kool Keith and others. Issue 2 has an interview with Gareth Bayliss, Peanut Butter Wolf, Flying Lotus and a Mo’Wax retrospective. The magazine has got a slick feel to it and is a dinky little size. I hope they keep going and that I see this magazine in the shops. Head on over to their site and order yourself an issue now or head over to Piccadilly Records and order it there.
I was hoping to pick up the latest copy of FACT magazine when I was out and about town on Friday, but I didn’t find it. Anyway, there are a couple of good interviews up on the website. One from Hudson Mohawke and also one from Belbury Poly. You should read them if you have a spare five minutes. Hope I find a copy of the magazine soon. It’s a nice publication and most of all it is free!
I managed to get a copy of the KAWS limited edition cover of ID magazine. It wasn’t too hard to find and I am sure you will be able to pick one up quite easily. I got mine from Borders books. Not had a chance to read through the magazine, but I see he has altered some of the adverts which is no bad thing. The American Apparel advert on the back page is pretty rude. I guess sex sells.
As usual with Lodown magazine as soon as I get an issue it appears that the latest one is out. Anyway, I picked up issue 60 today and it has some cracking articles in it. Not managed to read everything yet, but the article about La Boca is pretty good and so is the Kelpe interview. Its got all the usual stuff in it such as showing the latest trainers. Good to see a return of the Sal 23 Etnies. Classic skate shoes.
I love Fact magazine. Issue 25 is out now! Its got an interesting Top 20 of Brazilian Psychedelic music and the usual reviews and check outs. Seek it out! I’m probably a bit slow in picking this up, but hey, there is only one shop that stocks it where I live and I don’t go there that often.
I’ve always liked Fact Magazine. Its small and doesn’t fit on my shelves and I never really know where to store it, but its a quality read. I love the Top 20s they do. Everyone likes a good list. Anyway, I always find it quite difficult to find in the shops (its free), but when I see it, I grab and so should you!
