McCullin (2013)

I am looking forward to seeing this documentary about the war photographer, Don McCullin. It comes out on the 1st of January at British cinemas. His work is excellent and this documentary explores the mand and his photographs.

Django Unchained Soundtrack

I’m really looking forward to the new Quentin Tarantino movie, Django Unchained. I’ve always really enjoyed the soundtracks for his films, so it is great to sit and listen to the soundtrack for the new one. Good to see lots of Ennio Morricone in it. Check out the trailer below.

Suilven

Suilven from NorthColour Films on Vimeo. I caught this at the Dazzle Of Fog night in Glasgow earlier this year and it was great to see.

OUR VINYL WEIGHS A TON (This Is Stones Throw Records)

OUR VINYL WEIGHS A TON (This Is Stones Throw Records) Teaser from Gatling Pictures on Vimeo. I like Stones Throw records and I like music documentaries, so I am looking forward to seeing this.

Wrong (2012)

Mr Oizo returns with what looks set to be another surreal movie. I quite enjoyed Rubber. Looking forward to seeing this.

Portishead – To Kill A Dead Man

I love how Portishead decided to make their own short film when they signed to Go! Beat. I also love how they quickly learned how difficult it is to make a film. I remember recording this from Channel 4 in the mid 90s. I think it was on at about 3am or something silly like that. I don’t think I have seen this since then, so it is good to watch again.

Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present (2012)

I caught this documentary last week and was blown away by it. It follows Marina Abramović as she prepares for her retrospective show at MoMA. It gives you a good background in to her and her work and then shows highlights of her The Artist Is Present exhibition. It certainly looked like an amazing performance.

Lonely Water (1973)

This is definitely one of the most terrifying TV adverts I have ever seen in my life. I remember seeing it on the TV as a child.

Searching For Sugarman (2012)

I managed to see this last night at the cinema. I was first introduced to Rodriguez’s work through the David Holmes mix, Come Get It, I Got It. I loved the Sugarman track on it and I remember picking up a bootleg copy of the Cold Fact album by Rodriguez a couple of years later. The film follows the story of how Rodriguez was bigger than Elvis in South Africa and how he inspired people to stand against apartheid with his songs. No one knew anything about him and it follows the story of how they tracked him down and what he had done with his life since his music career had ended. If you are interested in music documentaries then this is a great one to watch. It has some really enjoyable feel good moments and it is always great to see someone get the recognition that they deserve.

Critics’ Picks – La Jetee

I’ve only recently got in to Chris Marker‘s work, but it is sad to hear of his death.
